This term, Year 2 have been creating boats, we linked this to our topic of the Great Fire of London. We started off by exploring the different types of boats which we have from England and around the world. Each child created their own success criteria of what they believed boats should be, these included to be able to float, be waterproof, carry a weight, move and be the correct size. We explored which materials were waterproof in science and which materials would sink or float. Finally it was time to construct, we used joining, sticking and cutting skills to make them and created a mechanism to make them move using elastic bands and lollipop sticks. We finished everything off by having a class regatta! How fun!
