Heathrow Primary School, Harmondsworth Lane, Sipson, West Drayton, Middlesex, UB7 0JQ
This term we have enjoyed learning about the topic ‘We are digital artists’. The children have enjoyed using their skills to recreate pieces of work inspired by Rothko and Kadinsky using the paint programme. The children’s mouse control has improved and they have thoroughly enjoyed using ‘real’ computers as apposed to Ipad devices and programmable toys.
This term, children have learnt basic programming ideas through experimenting and solving problems with simple, programmable robots – Blue-Bots. The children spent time exploring a Blue-Bot’s controls so that they could learn how it works. They enjoyed inputting a sequence of instructions into the Blue-Bot so that they could get the robot to move around a treasure map. The children also looked at the way they behave online and how that can affect people’s feelings, even though we can’t see or hear them. The children made their own worry box and as a class discussed who they could turn to when see or hear something online that upsets them.
