Year One

During autumn term, Year 1 children have worked on understanding their own emotions and explaining how their emotions can give a physical reaction in their body as well as recognising how others might be feeling by reading body language and facial expressions. This has really supported their social and emotional wellbeing and helped them to have more of an understanding for themselves as well as others.  The children focus on identifying simple qualities of friendship, suggest simple strategies for making up and resolving conflict situations and give and receive positive feedback and discuss how this makes them feel.

Year 1 children really enjoyed taking part in Practical Pedestrian Training in October. This developed their awareness of the road and provided the basis for lifelong skills. They are taught the basic ability to identify safe places to cross and how to do it in an acceptable manner. The children are made aware of distractions we face in the modern day world and how it can affect their judgment. Throughout the training, the children learnt practically how to put their new skills and knowledge into practice.

Spring term

During Spring term the children have focused on the two topics ‘keeping safe’ and ‘rights and responsibilites’. They can discuss the importance of staying healthy and how to make sensible choices with regards to exercise and diet. The children have reflected on past decisions and the feelings they experienced as a consequence. They have identified body parts and can discuss ‘good’ and ‘bad’ touches they really enjoyed watching the NSPCC ‘Pantosaurus’ song.During Spring term the children have focused on the two topics ‘keeping safe’ and ‘rights and responsibilites’.
