This half term we have been learning about different types shelters, habitats and climates. First, we explored a variety of shelters for design inspiration. We then used our knowledge of habitats and climates to design shelters with features suitable for a rainforest environment. We used a mixture of natural and recycled materials to build models of our shelters. As part of the evaluation process, we considered what alternative materials and features we would use or adopt if we were to build real-life rainforest shelters.
In addition to rainforest shelters, we made birdhouses for Take One Design week. This was an exciting and fun project as we had to opportunity to use tools such as saws, sanding files and even drills. Measuring, cutting and assembling all the parts of our birdhouses was challenging however, we became more skilled at it as the week went on.
