As artists this half term children will how and why our ancient ancestors made art, experimenting with natural materials to make homemade paints and playing with scale to paint on a range of surfaces. They started with creating basic line drawings of British animals in the style of Stone Age cave paintings. They scaled up their drawings and used charcoal runs to create shade and dimension. Pupils then created cave like backgrounds using chalk and charcoal rubbing and added their animal to this using scale, shading and proportion to create realistic cave paintings.
