This week we based our learning around Usbourne’s ‘The Nativity Book.’ We learnt the story behind the celebration of Christmas to understand why it is such an important event to Christians. The children were able to sequence the story and explain it in their own words.
We learnt about the different ways that people celebrate Christmas. The children were able to explain the ways they/others have prepared for the celebration and drew a picture of this in their books.
We practised our gross motor skills by balancing on a chalk drawing of a Christmas tree in the outdoor area. The children had to place one foot in front of the other to balance along the outline of the Christmas tree. They hen had to balance on the line and try and place/ throw the bean bags into the spots for baubles.
We did our pedestrian training in our outdoor area to learn how to cross the road safely in preparation for our trip to the post box. The children learnt the song:
‘Stop, Look, Listen, Hold Hands before you cross the street.
Stop, Look, Listen, Hold Hands before you cross the street.
Use your eyes, use your ears before you use your feet.
Stop, look, listen, hold hands before you cross the street.’
We went on our walk to the red letter box to post our Christmas cards, just like in our song we have been practising for our Christmas performance. We stopped to look at all of the interesting things in our environment, such as the numbers on doors, buses and car number plates, the letters on car number plates and on road signs. We looked at all the different shapes and colours of the road signs and road paintings. We listened for different sounds, such as birds, aeroplanes, cars and buses. The children put their pedestrian training into practise and were able to cross the street safely. They were really excited to post their Christmas cards and find out more about how it gets form the post pox to their house.
We had our Jingle Jog on Tuesday. The children loved wearing their reindeer ears to jog around the school. Thank you so much for all of the money you supported us in raising, we are thrilled to be able to help such a worthy cause.
