Heathrow Primary School
Autumn 1 – Troll Swap
As authors, we will write our own version of Troll Swap with our own characters, settings and story lines. Children will make predictions, use noun phrases to describe characters, create their own characters, both a human and a troll, concentrating on looks and personality and illustrate their stories
Autumn 2 – The Great Fire of London
As writers, we created an information report on ‘The Great Fire of London’. We had the chance to write a multitude of setting descriptions, research London monuments and plan their format and what information to include in our report.
Spring 1 – The Dragon Machine
As authors, we rewrite the story 'The Dragon Machine' by Helen Ward with our own characters and machines. We use clues to make predictions, use present tense to warn people about the invasion of dragons, write a diary entry from the perspective of George and use exclamation sentences to create leaflets.
Spring 2 – My Name is Not Refugee
As writers, children will focus on the book ’My name is not Refugee’ with the final intended outcome being that children will write a recount from the character’s perspective. Children will write sentences with different forms: statement, question, exclamation, command, use subordination (because, when), use present and past tenses correctly and consistently and use punctuation correctly – exclamation marks, question marks.
Summer 1 - Tidy
As correspondents, we will write persuasive letters in the role of Pete. We will be able to write instructions about keeping clean, write our own Autumn diamante poems, role-playing one of the animals from the text and write fact sheets about badgers.
