SPRING
Year 5 were explored the inspiring life of Malala Yousafzai through the texts For the Right to Learn by Rebecca Langston-George and Malala’s Magic Pencil by Malala Yousafzai herself. We used these powerful stories to deepen our understanding of her courage and determination. Building on this, the children wrote their own autobiographies in role of Malala, using the key features of an autobiography. They also focused on including fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and parenthesis to add detail and clarity to their writing.

Children researched and found facts about Jean-Michel Basquiat. They also manipulated the writing style for a specific purpose and audience.
