Autumn
In our mathematical journey, children have delved into the fascinating realm of numbers, expanding their comprehension of place value to the vast expanse of 1,000,000. They've honed their skills in rounding six-digit numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand with the aid of number lines. Through the application of formal methods, they've mastered addition and subtraction, seamlessly executing exchanges with confidence and proficiency. Moreover, they've tackled the intricate challenge of multi-step addition and subtraction problems.

On Number Day, Year 5 put their problem-solving skills to the test with a thrilling "Find the Whole: Crack the Code" challenge! Working through shuffled question cards, they solved mathematical problems to uncover hidden letters, gradually piecing together a secret mathematical word. Later, they took their learning outdoors with an exciting orienteering activity, applying their multiplication skills to solve one-digit by two-digit calculations in a fast-paced, active challenge. The highlight of the day was the mesmerising visit from Professor Poopenshtinken! His magical maths tricks left the children amazed and determined to uncover his secrets, sparking curiosity and excitement about the wonders of numbers!
Summer
As mathematicians, children developed their understanding of geometry. They learned how to classify, estimate, and measure angles. Children identified the difference between regular and irregular polygons. In the end, they explored lines of symmetry of different shapes and represented the position of a shape following a reflection or translation.
