AUTUMN
In the ‘colour splash’ topic the children will learn the key skills of experiments in paint, using a wide variety of tools (e.g brushes, sponges, fingers) to apply paint to a range of surfaces. We will begin to explore colour mixing, mixing the primary colour red, yellow and blue and know that primary colour can be mixed to make secondary colours. Year 1 will select colours, shapes and materials to suit ideas and purposes and know that pattern is a design which shapes, colour or lines are repeated. The children will describe the similarities and differences between practices in Art and design, e.g between painting and sculpture, and linking these to their own work.
SPRING
In this unit make your mark we will use a range of materials creatively to design and make products and use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination.
Year 1 will develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
We will learn about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work.
