Heathrow Primary School
This Week we based our Learning around the stories, ‘Oliver’s Vegetables,’ ‘Oliver’s Fruit Salad,’ and ‘The Busy Body Book.’
We were finding small fruit in the sand try using sieves. We names the fruit and then talked about our likes and dislikes, we were trying to using full sentences and explain why we did and didn’t like a particular fruit.
We were looking at the differences between the inside and outside of fruit. We talked about the colours and textures. We painted the inside and outside of kiwis and apples. We selected the best paintbrush to use for each part of the fruit, using the vocabulary thick and think to describe the paintbrushes.
We drew ourselves in our books with our favourite fruit and vegetable and explaining why we liked them. We discussed other things that were healthy for us and what they do for our body.
We practised our cutting skills on straight and curved lines. We focused on holding the scissors correctly and trying to cut continuously, rather than just make snips. The children were honing their fine motor skills and their bilateral coordination by holding the paper with one hand and cutting with the other.
As part of our Healthy Living Day activities we made fruit people using cucumber, carrots, bananas and raisins. The children selected the best shapes for each body part and named the 2D shapes.
The children used trampettes for their sporting activity. They had so much fun bouncing up and down, and bouncing in different directions to create different shapes on the trampette. The children had a go at balancing on it with one leg and then leaning forward. They were really impressive. As well as being wonderful exercise, the balancing was excellent for their core strength and coordination.
The children were counting fruit using their 1:1 correspondence and knowing to stop at the cardinal number. They were then trying to match these to the numerals.
We learnt about triangles this week in Maths and we went on a 2D shape hunt in the classroom to try and identify shapes in our environment.
In our Phonics sessions, we were making sounds, hearing and matching sounds and remembering and describing sounds.
We practised using our Velcro names to identify some of the sounds and place them in the correct order.
