For this year's Number Day, we raised money for the NSPCC by having a number themed no-uniform day. The children enjoyed lots of fun mathematical tasks in class as well as a maths themed scavenger hunt outside. It was a great day!
Year 1
During number day, Year 1 were visited by the mad scientist Professor Poopenstinken. The professor taught the children all about different kinds of shapes. The children also spent some time creating number bots. Finally, the children went outside to do some ‘one more, one less’ orienteering until unfortunately the adverse weather conditions stopped play.
Year 2
Year 2 had an exciting Number Day, filled with fun and learning! Our morning started with a special visit from Professor Poopenshtinken, who amazed us by reading our minds and helping us identify shapes through an exciting game of BINGO! Next, we played a memory matching game, testing our coin recognition and counting skills. Finally, we took part in an orienteering challenge, using our knowledge of the 2, 5, and 10 times tables to solve problems along the way. It was a fantastic day full of numbers, problem-solving, and teamwork!
Year 3
Year 3 completed an orienteering activity based on the times tables. They really enjoyed hunting for the missing numbers to their equations.
After, they completed a safari themed scavenger hunt- solving mastery questions using different animals that represented numerical values. We then had a visited by Professor Poopenshtinken’s and his mind blowing Magic Maths.
Year 4
Year 4 took part in an orienteering task focussing on fractions which is our current topic. This involved adding fractions with the same denominator, understanding equivalent fractions and identifying parts shaded within in a shape. Furthermore, they were dumbfounded by Professor Poopenshtinken’s mind blowing Magic Maths.
Year 5
On Number Day, Year 5 put their problem-solving skills to the test with a thrilling "Find the Whole: Crack the Code" challenge! Working through shuffled question cards, they solved mathematical problems to uncover hidden letters, gradually piecing together a secret mathematical word. Later, they took their learning outdoors with an exciting orienteering activity, applying their multiplication skills to solve one-digit by two-digit calculations in a fast-paced, active challenge. The highlight of the day was the mesmerising visit from Professor Poopenshtinken! His magical maths tricks left the children amazed and determined to uncover his secrets, sparking curiosity and excitement about the wonders of numbers!
Year 6
Year 6 enjoyed some maths based orienteering related to Roman numerals and times tables. The children enjoyed using their maths skills as well as their map reading skills to solve the clues. They then had their minds blown by Professor Poopenshtinken’s maths magic which they absolutely loved and are still trying to work out how he did it!
