As artists this half term children will how and why our ancient ancestors made art, experimenting with natural materials to make homemade paints and playing with scale to paint on a range of surfaces. They started with creating basic line drawings of British animals in the style of Stone Age cave paintings. Pupils then created cave like backgrounds using chalk and charcoal rubbing and added their animal to this using scale, shading and proportion to create realistic cave paintings.
Spring:
This term pupils have become artists. Pupils have been exploring 3D shapes and sculptures. They have looked at how shapes and negative spaces can be represented by three dimensional forms and have manipulated a range of materials to create abstract structures. Pupils have also learnt different ways to join shapes and have created a free-standing structure, inspired by the work of Anthony Caro.
