Heathrow Primary School
Our story this week was 'The Gingerbread Man.' We really lovely joining in with this book, especially to say “run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man.” We read different versions of the story and compared them.
Our favourite part of the week was mixing our own dough and rolling it out to make our own gingerbread people. We used our motor skills to roll the dough out evenly to the correct thickness, we then used out cutters and had to carefully peel away the excess dough. We discussed the changes that happened to the dough in the oven and then again when they had cooled.
We decorated our gingerbread people with icing that we used a 'glue' to place our squidgy jelly buttons, our raisin eyes and our strawberry lace smile.
The children enjoyed honing their fine motor skills when cutting out shapes with the characters from the Gingerbread Man.
We recapped all of our learnt sounds, focusing on recognising and saying the sound correctly. We practised hearing the initial sounds in words and orally blending CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words together.
We recapped recognising numbers, counting to the cardinal number and matching the numerals and properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
Booster Cushions
The children absolutely loved watching our Booster Cushions Theatre show about ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears Plus.’ They found it hilarious with uncontrollable fits of giggling. They were able to join in with the story with certain refrains and enjoyed being part of the show. They were able to tell us their favourite parts of the show and explain their reasoning.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
