Year 1
AUTUMN
Seasonal Changes
During this topic, children will be identifying the seasons and describing changes between the four seasons. Children will observe weather patterns and use this knowledge to explore how people prepare for expected weather changes. Year 1 will use scientific vocabulary to investigate temperature changes throughout the seasons as well as observing how daylight varies.
Animals including Humans
During this term, children will be focusing on humans and other animals. They will be learning how to sort animals into different categories such as fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals as well as carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Children will also describe the similarities and differences of the structure of different animals. Additionally, students will be learning to label the different parts of the body.
SUMMER
Plants
This term Year 1 will be looking at plants. Children will be exploring the different parts of plants and describing their structure. During this topic, the children will be discovering and naming new plants. They will scientifically investigate similarities and differences within different plants and will also be investigating how different conditions can effect a plants growth. As well as this, Year 1 will be exploring plants within their environment.
